The original title is:

> Cybersecurity CEO Indicted for Allegedly Scamming Millions From Ransomware Victims

The title includes the company (although his name is in the URL).. what's the benefit of your edit of the H1?

MonsterCloud CEO Indicted on Federal Fraud Charges in Data Recovery Scheme

Was going to suggest title change too; Nothing particular about Data Recovery, clearer that it's a cybersecurity/ransomware scheme etc

<h1> (rather than <title>) is the human-oriented title. When I open the live article page itself, the title on the page (not elsewhere in the browser UI) is

> Cybersecurity CEO Indicted for Allegedly Scamming Millions From Ransomware Victims

, which exceeds the character limit by 2. I could have lightly edited the title to `Cybersecurity CEO Indicted for Allegedly Scamming Ransomware Victims`. However, having personally noticed in the past that some people comment on the headline without reading the article, I also editorialized "Cybersecurity" to `Data Recovery`.

The <title> you found is just as valid, as it's the (often shorter but clearer) alternative title that ProPublica offers to search engines and the browser tab. In the interest of not letting my title choices be confused for a website's A/B testing (which ProPublica might not do) and because I don't know which disclaimer to write for ProPublica's alt titles, I usually punt the responsibility of whether to use the alt titles to the HN mods.

This is why I've always been derisive about smaller MSSPs, Pentest shops, and other "channel" partners.

Firms like MonsterCloud are just the tip of the iceberg.
